A South Carolina native, Flo Bartell earned her undergraduate degree from Furman
University and her master's degree from the University of South Carolina. After a career in education and mental health, she established a needle arts business. During her retail years, Flo returned to her lifelong passion for art. She attended classes and workshops to explore techniques and media. In 2003 she retired to California's Central Coast to spend time with family, paint, and write.
Inspired largely by nature and the human form, Flo enjoys expressing her view of the world through the texture and intense colors possible with encaustic - wax medium and pigments. Her paintings have been accepted into amateur and professional juried exhibits, appeared on magazine covers, and have been adapted for nationally marketed needlepoint designs. Her embroidery designs have been featured in internationally distributed magazines and her many essays have been published by She Magazine.
Flo is a member of International Encaustic Artists; San Luis Obispo Museum of Art; Central Coast Watercolor Society; Oil, Pastel, and Acrylic Group; and is a member and president of Morro Bay Art Association at Art Center Morro Bay.
